External Training - FI-210 Wildland Fire Origin and Cause Determination
|
The primary purpose of this course is to provide a consistent knowledge and skill base for the Wildland Fire Investigator (INVF). The concepts taught in this course will help an INVF perform at an acceptable level on a national basis without regard to geographic boundaries. The course is presented by lectures, electronic presentations, field exercises, and class discussion.
Target Group
Recommended training for experienced fire personnel and law enforcement officers with wildland fire investigation responsibilities.
Prerequisite Qualifications and Training
Recommend students have law enforcement or firefighter experience. An interactive, self- paced pre-course work will familiarize students with the background information necessary to successfully complete the course. Satisfactory completion of pre-selection assessment. - completed online

|
The purpose of this course is to train new and experienced firefighters in managing an incident within an incident (IWI). IWI Commander is an eight to twelve hour course split between classroom instruction and field scenarios, designed to meet the training needs of a firefighter that experiences an IWI. Recommended for all personnel assigned to positions with fireline duties, and for any position assigned to the fireline for non-suppression tasks.

This course was developed using a blended approach to learning. Students are required to complete the online training portion of the course prior to taking the ILT. The course introduces the roles and responsibilities of a Firing Boss, Single Resource (FIRB), and outlines duties of other personnel who may engage firing operations. The course discusses and illustrates common firing devices and techniques. Although comprehensive in nature, the course work is not a substitute for the dynamic fire environment. The course provides students with important information regarding general tasks required to be successful. Any opportunity to show students a real ignition or demonstrate the use of an actual firing device will assist in transferring these new concepts and skills to the job.

S-230 is a blended course, with an online training (OLT) component, and Instructor led training component. The ILT may be delivered in a traditional or virtual classroom environment. This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the Crew Boss (CRWB) position, as described in the NWCG Incident Position Standards for Crew Boss, PMS-350-98. Topics include travel and check-in in, briefings, assigning tasks and assessing crew performance, implementing fire line duties, mop-up, firing operations, using aerial resources, medical emergencies, and wildland urban interface.

External Training - S-231, Engine Boss (Single Resource) Blended
|
This course was developed using a blended approach to learning. Students are required to complete the online training portion of the course and pass an online assessment prior to taking the ILT. The focus of this online training is to teach knowledge and concepts. The ILT will reinforce the content learned online and provide opportunities to apply this knowledge to real-world scenarios and practical exercises. Upon completion of the ILT, students must then take and pass a final assessment in order to receive credit for the course. The final assessment covers content from both the online and ILT portions of the course.

External Training - S-359 Medical Unit Leader (MEDL)
|
This course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed to perform in the role of Medical Unit Leader (MEDL). Topics include gathering information, organizing the medical unit, supervising the unit, evaluation, documentation, and demobilization.
This course is offered in a Blended Training format. A Blended Training format combines elements of Online Training (OLT) with elements of Instructor-led Training (ILT).
Online Training component: In the OLT, students explore the knowledge and concepts required to meet the responsibilities of the MEDL from mobilization to various incident changes. Students are required to complete the OLT portion of the course and pass the assessment prior to taking the ILT portion. The OLT is estimated to take 3-4 hours to complete.
Instructor-led Training component: The ILT portion of the course provides scenario-based activities that allow participants to apply the knowledge and concepts required to meet the responsibilities of a MEDL identified in the NWCG Incident Position Standards for Medical Unit Leader (MEDL). Activities will be assessed using NWCG Course Skill Assessments completed by the instructors. The ILT will be in-person, for approximately 2-1/2 days.
